Extra Menu x The Red Scarves

The sun of the South of France will shine at Menu Extra! Domaine Les Foulards Rouges will be joining us for a gourmet menu paired with their wines.


The duo Jean-François Nicq and Laurence (Yoyo) Manya Krief will come to 5206 Saint-Laurent on February 27, 28 and March 1 to explain their wines and their careers as part of Montréal en lumière.


Jean-François is a pioneer of free wines in Roussillon. After studying geology and viticulture, he met several mentor winemakers such as Thierry Puzelat and Marcel Lapierre, before making wine for the Estezargues winegrowers' cooperative. Working in complete contrast to his colleagues, Jean-François proposed several changes to the status quo: stopping the use of synthetic yeasts, dividing wines into multiple cuvées instead of a single homogeneous wine to better express the terroir, and reducing sulfur in winemaking.


After this formative period, he decided to create the Les Foulards Rouges estate by taking over 18 hectares in the Pyrénées-Orientales, in an exceptional climate. Several grape varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, and Mourvèdre are planted on the complex soils of Roussillon, resulting in frank and energetic wines.


Now well established in the region, Jean-François Nicq has been joined by several like-minded winemakers, including Laurence Manya Krief of Domaine Yoyo. She will also be joining us to share the complicity and complexity that exist in Roussillon.
